Nashville and Onward September 4-6, 2018

September 4th, Tuesday, we drove into the city of Nashville.  Our first stop was at the Parthenon which is an exact replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece that was erected for an 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition representing Nashville  as the “Athens of the South”.  Art is displayed on the lower level.

Within the main hall a 14 foot 10 inch Athena holding Nike, goddess of victory, standing in Athena’s right hand.

In the original Parthenon in Greece has long been lost.  A local Nashvllian,  Alan LeQuire, sculpted this modern Athena.  It is gilded and painted with 8 pounds of 23.75 carat gold.        After the Parthenon we got on a city tour bus for a hop on/ hop off tour of the city.  The tour pointed out the big industry of music in this city as the tour went along streets with numerous recording studios often advertising the musicians that record in these studios.  Hot chicken, chicken fried and seasoned with mild to hot spices, seems to be the food item of choice in Nashville.  We did ride by the capital of Tennessee.  It was a hot as well as an interesting day.

Wednesday (5th) we left the Seven Points Corps of Engineering Campground and drove 365 miles to Little Rock, Arkansas.  We arrived at the Downtown RV Park about 3:20pm.  Another really hot day kept us inside the motorhome.  I had washing that needed to be done so I hopped on that detail.  Unfortunately the 50 amp electric service was not the best so we were unable to use all the air conditioners that was necessary along with the washer and dryer.  We had been to this RV park before so it really amounted to an overnight stop in this area.
Today, Thursday (6th), we were up and on the road before 8:30 am.  We were in somewhat a hurry to leave this area as a tropical depression, Gordon, was expected to be hitting Little Rock today with lots of rain and winds.  Luckily, we got away just experiencing a light mist as we were hooking up the car to the motorhome.  There were clouds throughout the day with some periods of sun.  After 322 miles we arrived at  KOA East Oklahoma about 2 pm.  Since we had not eaten lunch we briefly set up and then went out for lunch at Braum’s, a hamburger and dairy bar restaurant.  Burgers and ice cream were very good.     We will be staying here for 2 nights.
